European leaders will hold a summit to formulate their Brexit response on 29 April, one month after UK Prime Minister Theresa May is set to trigger Article 50.

According to the Financial Times, EU Council president Donald Tusk said the event will be used as a forum for the remaining EU leaders to adopt their formal guidelines for negotiations, which will be headed by the European Commission. He added the negotiations will be formulated with the aim of coming to an agreement which will be "least painful for the EU". "Our main priority for negotiations must be to create as much certainty and clarity as possible for all citizens, companies and member states that will be negatively affected by Brexit," he said in a press conference.
