Bill Gross: We are in a 'hibernating bear market'

Bill Gross, portfolio manager at Janus Henderson Investors, has said there is a "mild bearish" tone in the US Treasury bonds market as a result of the Treasury raising more capital.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Gross said tighter monetary policy from the Federal Reserve and an increase in supply from the US government would continue to weigh on prices. In October last year, the Fed halted its $4.5trn "gigantic" bond-buying programme and has begun to raise rates with the market predicting between two or three more hikes this year in addition to one seen in March. The manager of the Janus Henderson Global Unconstrained Bond and Total Return strategies said 10-year Treasury yields would "meander" between 2.80% and 3.15% for the remainder of the year.
