There is a strange obsession in this country with asking successful fund managers when they are going to retire.
I was recently asked when Neil Woodford was going to retire. How would I know that? But the question was followed by the obvious comment: 'Why does he keep going when he has got so much money?' For me, the answer to that question gets to the heart of why he is such a successful investor. One of the founders of Neuberger Berman, Roy Neuberger, was still going into the firm's Wall Street office at the age of 106. He died in 2010 at the age of 107 - no doubt the fact he did carry on working when he passed the age of 100 contributed to him having such a long and fulfilled life. Gosling...
